All of us want our new employees to be successful. We want to build capacity, prevent burnout, and increase both skills and retention. To do this, first we need to set our coaches and trainees up for success.

One method is to introduce some new assessment tools into your coaching courses. In mine, I ask coaches and trainees to first take a couple of minutes and complete a Multiple Intelligence quiz to determine their preferred learning styles.

What are Your Preferred Learning Styles?

VISUAL LEARNER

You like to have a visual diagram or draw things out

 

 

 

 

 

INTRAPERSONAL LEARNER

You want to study the instructions on your own and research how to do it without the assistance of others

INTERPERSONAL LEARNER

You like to participate in discussions and group exercises

 

 

BODY KINETIC LEARNER

You want to physically try it and learn to do by doing

 

 

 

 

MUSICAL LEARNER

You enjoy listening to music while you learn/study. You create little jingles or rhymes in your head to remember things

LOGICAL/MATHEMATICAL LEARNER

You need things to be in a logical and systematic order to learn them

 

NATURALIST LEARNER

You learn best if you are outside in nature or near a window

VERBAL LEARNER

You like to listen to someone else talk, lecture and absorb the teaching

Of course, the way you learn will also tend to be your preferred way to teach, coach, supervise, and parent. But what if the other person doesn’t have the same preferences? This can dramatically impact the success of both learner and coach
